1. Check the Facts
• Know the details of your managed care organization (MCO) contract if you are a network provider, including the time frame for receiving payment.
• Update whether your patient has active benefits with the MCO.
2. Call the MCO
• If you are due payment, call the MCO’s claims department.
• If the answer is unsatisfactory even after speaking to a supervisor, call the provider service line.
3. Put Your Problem in Writing
• Document the details of the claim, the problem you encountered and reference your provider contract and/or state law regarding prompt payment.
• Send the letter to the MCO’s CEO and the State Insurance Commissioner.
